Portraiture

The portrait sculptures, shown in the following six sub-sections, show works that have been made over the past 55 years. They are to be found in both public and private collections.
The University of Pretoria has a comprehensive collection of his portraits that can be viewed by appointment.

Portraits make lasting interpretive memorials to family members as well as for corporate and public commemorative images of those who have served well.
Mike accepts commissions for portraits and will gladly give details of how this can be achieved. Ideally he likes working from life but over the years has made some astoundingly successful posthumous portraits as well as some where distance or other circumstances has made the working from life impossible. Where possible, within a given budget, he is prepared to travel to the client in order to achieve the ‘working from life’ choice situation.

Examples of posthumous portraits are Advocate Duma Nokwe, Danie Craven & Thomas Jonah; one made far from home - Toni Follina - in Rome and one which had to be made without personal contact because of circumstances, that of Nelson Mandela
